Creating your portfolio

At the heart of our approach is creating an investment portfolio that best suits you as an individual. The financial world today is complex and frequently turbulent, as markets are buffeted by unpredictable world events.  At Cardale we explain our strategies and investment choices in plain and simple terms, in order to ensure that you understand the recommendations we make.

Our approach is structured but also flexible. We will discuss asset class selection, outline the rationale behind choosing certain geographic areas and explain our preference for particular industry sectors. We do all this to create a real partnership of understanding before we make a start on the underlying stock selection process.

We can then use our independence of thought and extensive experience to act decisively in whatever way we judge to be in the best interests of our clients.

Portfolio asset allocation is the key driver of investment performance and the combination of asset classes within each portfolio is derived primarily from the client's investment time horizon, attitude to risk, investment objective and tax status. Once these elements have been considered we will recommend a portfolio asset allocation that we believe best meets the client's requirement and expectations.

Measuring performance

While many money managers will benchmark their performance against that of the major stock market indices, it is our experience that the vast majority of private investors and trustees are trying to generate a positive return on their capital.

As a firm we are benchmark aware but not benchmark driven. We do not restrict ourselves to market weightings and we are not afraid to hold significant amounts of cash in portfolios for a length of time.

If we believe it is in a client's best interest to be underweight or overweight in any particular asset class or industry group, then we will act to adjust the content of their investment portfolio accordingly.

Financial Planning, Tax and Accountancy Services

Services include:

  • Investment planning;
  • Inheritance tax planning;
  • Pension planning;
  • Asset protection; and
  • Tax-efficient long term care for the elderly.

We also provide advice and services to businesses from protecting key employees, partners and shareholders to arranging company pensions and employee benefits.

Reporting and Administration

Discretionary investment management eases the administrative burden by eliminating time consuming paperwork in what is now, more than ever, a very highly regulated business. Our administration team has experienced professionals who are justifiably proud of the quality and accuracy of our reporting systems.

We provide a full nominee service that holds stock on behalf of clients, coupled with cash management accounts to ensure quick and efficient stock settlement and administration of corporate events relating to client portfolios. Dividends and interest payments are paid into your cash management account, which will also hold your un-invested cash, pending re-investment.

As part of our service, we produce formal six-monthly reports to keep you fully informed about the progress and structure of your portfolio. Naturally, valuations are available at any time on request. Whenever we transact business on your behalf, we write to you with the contract note explaining what has been done and why.

In addition at the end of each fiscal year we issue a detailed report that includes:

·                     A consolidated dividend and interest statement and tax voucher

·                     Details of all transactions over the course of the year

·                     Cash movement schedule

Capital gains tax schedules can also be provided on a free basis for managed clients, subject to our having the necessary information regarding acquisition dates and costs.

Our investment managers will take the time to meet you and personally review the report whenever you wish to do so. Indeed, we are always happy to see clients and actively encourage clients to talk to us or seek a meeting, either at our office or your home, on a regular basis.

If you want peace of mind in the knowledge that your investments are being managed by experienced people who get to know and understand you, please contact us. We will initially arrange a meeting and then prepare a proposal based on your requirements and demonstrate to you how we can help you achieve your investment objectives.
